Workshops are offered in fibre related topics including spinning
& felting, taught by qualified instructors.
All Workshops are held at Gemini Fibres. Registration is limited
so early registration is recommended. Refunds will be given only
in the event of class cancellation.

- Beginning Spindle Spinning By Wendy
Whelan
We live in a modern, high-tech world but a growing number of people
are learning the ancient art of spindle spinning. Why? Spindle
spinning is affordable, portable & fun, especially when learning
on the quality, well-balanced Forrester spindles. Wendy will guide
you through the process of making yarn. No previous experience
is required.

- Carding, Combing & Colour
By Wendy Whelan
Spend a day learning the proper use of handcarders and handheld
combs while you create a 12-step colour wheel. We’ll explore
colour blending using 3 primary colours of Corriedale Top. Correct
carding & combing techniques will add dimension to your spinning
while you gain experience in how colours interact. Use your imagination
to build your own fibre colour palette without the use of dyes.
If you have carders and/or mini combs bring them with you. There
will be some equipment available for class use. Some spinning
experience would be helpful, but this is primarily a fibre preparation
class. Students will have a choice of warm (painters) or cool
(printers) palette in which to work.

- High Whorl Spindling- The Next Level

If you enjoyed learning to use the high whorl spindle, let's take
it to the next level. We'll explore how to get more out of your
spindle spinning, different plying techniques, tools available,
tips and tricks to expand your enjoyment of this portable spinning
method. Planning a spindle project and working with handpainted
commercial roving will be discussed. High whorl spindle spinning
experience required Forrester spindles will be available for class
use, or you may bring your own high whorl spindle to use.

- Needlefelted Gnome
By Jane Altobelli
Needlefelt a jolly little gnome, with a pointy hat, twinkling
blue eyes and snowy white beard. Each gnome you create will be
different and each has his own personality. There will only be
time to make one gnome in this all-day class, but the techniques
you learn will enable you to go on to create other figures.

- Spinning Clinic

to upgrade your spinning skill. Understand your wheel and discover
how to use that knowledge to improve your skill. Lots of tips,

- Introduction to Spinning Cotton
By Wendy Whelan
Spend the day learning to spin this amazing fibre. We will explore
preparation methods, such as preparing cotton bolls, making punis,
using commercial roving. Different drafting styles will be discussed,
as well as blending techniques with other fibres, plying techniques.
We will also address cotton spinning on the high whorl spindle.
This course requires spinning experience.
Bring your wheel and the smallest whorl you have as well as Cotton
or Louet fine hand carders if you have them. Some carders will
be available for use in class. There will be a small materials
fee in addition to the course fee.
