Spindles: Top or High Whorl Spindles

This popular category of spindles has by far the most variety of styles and woods available. Pictured are some of the different spindles but please remember each spindle is an individual, a truly one-of-a-kind creation. All high whorls have a "Forrester brass swan-neck hook" and a notch in the whorl behind the opening of the hook.

Linum Series

The Linum spindles are created out of a love for gardening. Linum (the Latin word for flax) has a small, delicate five-petaled flower. The spindle whorl was first turned to its unique shape and then assessed to see if it was worthy of being a special spindle. The flower petal notches were individually hand-carved into the rim of the whorl and the dots added. This work is obviously very time-consuming and requires a delicate touch.

There are three Linums in the series and are available in maple, cherry walnut and some exotic woods. All have a swan-neck hook.

These top whorl spindles represent more than "just another pretty face". The whorl's weight distribution is more to the outside rim. Called "rim loading", this is achieved by reducing the center weight of the whorl by cavitation either from the top or bottom surface or both. Weight can be further reduced by drill holes through the whorl (top to bottom) which also adds visual appeal.

Domino spindle:	Price
This is a new spindle design. It is comprised of a single whorl on a fancy-turned shaft. A domino is places above the whorl and just below the fancy turnings on the shaft. click images to see larger image of products	$  54.95

Interestingly enough, I have discovered that there are several different styles of dominos. There are the traditional black ones with 6 dots per side. However there are also ones with 9 dots (double 9’s), and 12 dots per side (double 12’s). There are also coloured ones where the domino is fully coloured, or just the dots are coloured. Such variety in “Domino Land” – who knew? These are a bit of fun.
